About Tonia Jones
I first qualified in Anatomy, Physiology and Massage in 2001. In 2004, I studied Remedial Massage at the Northern Institute of Massage in Lancashire. Since then, I have completed additional courses in Soft Tissue Release, Muscle Energy Technique and Postural Dysfunction, the Lumbar Spine, the Thoracic Spine and Pregnancy Massage. I have also studied under Thomas Hendrickson, DC – an American Chiropractor with over 35 years experience in Massage and Bodywork.
In 2013 I qualified in advanced Massage and Manipulative Therapy at the Midlands School of Massage in Nottingham, passing with a distinction.
I treat a broad range of people from those involved in professional sports to those with chronic muscle and joint dysfunctions and have worked with the British Climbing Team in Sheffield and Leeds. I also spend much of my time treating people who simply require general massage treatments.
I have always been active - from representing Gloucestershire in Cross Country to cycling around New Zealand. I am an avid rock climber, cyclist and walker and a keen proponent of yoga.
Why choose me?
There are many styles of massage and many levels of expertise within the field. The Massage industry is unregulated which means that a Massage Therapist is not required to have attended a specific course or to have acquired a certain amount of knowledge and learning before being able to practice.
I am passionate about Massage and its benefits and believe that exceptional treatments come from excellent training in Massage and Anatomy and Physiology, as well as extensive experience over a period of years.
Remedial Massage Therapy is an advanced form of massage that uses specialised techniques to address muscular pain and dysfunction. It helps restore correct function to injured or inhibited soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments) thereby promoting pain relief and healing.
Remedial Massage has many applications from general structural maintenance to injury management and rehabilitation and is an ideal treatment option for a wide range of muscle, joint and soft tissue problems. Used on a regular basis, it focuses awareness on specific areas of tension within the body thereby preventing the onset of chronic dysfunction. It can be helpful in treating specific areas of muscle tension caused by physical, postural or emotional stress, helping to return the body to a state of physical and structural balance.
How it works
After assessing the client, the therapist will determine which corrective measures are necessary to accomplish specific goals. During treatment, muscles are relaxed and warmed using general massage strokes. Specific techniques are then employed to treat any problem areas highlighted during the assessment. Where necessary, exercises and stretches are prescribed as part of the rehabilitation and healing process.
The prime purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to over-exertion and overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. It can also be used before a sporting event to prepare the body for physical activity.
Specific strokes and stretches are used which help to obtain maximum performance and physical conditioning with less chance of injury or pain. It increases power, endurance, and flexibility both before and after an event or workout.
You do not have to be an active sports person to benefit form a sports massage treatment.Treatments are suitable for any one who prefers a deeper, more specific massage treatment.
I am fully insured to practice as a Massage and Manipulative Therapist and Yoga Teacher.
